Welcome!

immersed in was made to be a guide to the immersive theatre and experiences scene in London and the UK for anyone; young or old, first show or 100th, who is searching for a bit of magic.

What is an immersive theatre or experience?

In immersive theatre productions, the audience plays a role, whether as a witness or an actual character. There is a huge range of different types but usually the audience gets some level of agency; being able to choose where to go, what to see or make decisions that might impact the story.

In a similar way immersive art and exhibitions usually insert the audience somehow into the story of the piece.

As such no individual experience is ever quite the same.

At immersed in we focus on live performance and exhibition experiences, where the audience congregates at a given moment either in person or online.

How we review

Over the last ten years immersive theatre and experiences have reached new heights of ambition, scale and sheer number.

We don’t really believe in star ratings in the immersive world at the moment. All immersive theatre and experience makers are on the frontier, creating brave and diverse work and taking risks that the rest of the community can learn from. As there are no best practices or enough ‘canon’ to really compare to we shy away from stars which would suggest they are directly comparable.

We believe in excellence but we also believe that there’s an audience for each show, so we’re thinking about how to devise a recommendation or “this is for you if..” system.

Stay tuned!

When she was a kid in Wales, she spent a lot of time in castles (there were a lot of them around) imagining herself back in time as a knight.

Something of this fascination with alternate worlds, along with a good dose of unapologetic nerdiness, has stayed with her.
